Help me beat CANCER!

My name is Shelley Glass ( Carter) and many knew me from my talents in basketball at Columbia High School in Decatur, Ga, back in the early to mid-'80s. I was a fierce competitor and lead my team in many winning seasons. After high school, I obtained my college education and continued to fight by joining the military and fighting in the War on Iraq. 

I am continuing to fight and I have a lot to live for. I have a husband and an 12-year-old son, who now plays AAU basketball. Many days I am not feeling energized enough, but I push through, so that he has a chance to participate in athletics. He plays for a Recreation team, as well as a Travel AAU team. He has been strong but I know my situation is wearing on him, as I started out stage 4. I am doing chemotherapy (2 types) and it seems to be working. I am getting my treatment through the military and they are doing an amazing job so far. The pain that uncovered cancer has subsided and I am starting to eat again. My faith is strong and my support is great. My high school basketball rival (Safiyah Farrakhan ) has insisted that I allow her to be of assistance in creating this page. I don’t want to be the person that needs assistance and I ignore the boat, the life raft and the helicopter that God sends, and I ignore it. I have been pretty much on my own since I was 16 years old, so being humble is what my lesson is in this

My treatments are every 3 weeks. My husband can’t take an outside job because he has to care for me and my son. Unfortunately, he just had a stroke and a massive Heart Attack. He coded 3 times and was then put into a medically induced coma. But God he made it through.We haven't worked since 1/2022 and making ends meet has been challenging. It’s hard to ask for any type of assistance, people are funny about stuff like this, I think.

We have been fortunate that some family (Angela Pelzer, Igola Jordan and Lisa Glass) and our church (Summerstand Outreach)have assisted during tough times.
