Our Father's Medical Help

Hello family, friends, and supporters,

What I’m about to ask of you isn’t something that comes with ease for me. The past year has been a difficult one for my family. Our superhero, our father, was diagnosed with Multiply Myeloma (MM); a cancer arising from the plasma cells in the bone marrow (cancer of the bone marrow). Our father, Luis is truly one of the most humble, loving, compassionate and kindest human beings you’ll ever meet; always willing to give a helping hand to those in need without ever expecting anything in return. And, he is also one of the hardest working men I’ve ever known; working since the young age of fourteen, holding two jobs down for most of his life just so that my brother, sister and I would never go without. This is why this situation is that much more difficult for him (for us), because he’s always been the giver, the provider. Chances are someone in your circle has heard the dreadful words “YOU HAVE CANCER.” More than likely, you know someone who has been diagnosed with some form of cancer, perhaps a loved one, relative, close friend, coworker, or neighbor. Therefore, you can understand the psychological, emotional and economic struggles that come with it.

Although there is currently no cure, multiple myeloma is a treatable disease. There are treatments that slow down its spread but, if left untreated a number of medical problems including (but not limited to) can occur; severe bone damage- which he’s already had the misery of enduring, elevated blood calcium, low blood counts (anemia), kidney damage, weak immune system. As a result, patients with active myeloma require treatment to avoid serious medical complications. Currently, the initial treatment has been to stabilize the condition with doses of chemotherapy. Once the myeloma plateaus, the patient can then be considered for stem cell transplantation. Thankfully, our father was told that he’s a candidate for the transplant of stem cells. He just needs a few economic hurdles to overcome. He is scheduled to receive the bone marrow transfusion soon.  However, because medical insurance does not cover all the expenses associated with the illness and the expense of the treatment is beyond his reach, I am reaching out and appealing to your generosity.

My family and I thank you in advance for your support! Your donation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help.
