Hi Everyone,
My name is Amanda and I am the sister-in-law to DJ Harris. DJ is the father to 2 young boys, ages 10 and 7, and loving husband to my sister Amie. Those of you that know DJ know he is the type of person to do anything to help you. He is the kindest, selfless, hockey and call of duty loving, fun loving husband, father, son, and brother-in-law. He is full of corny dad jokes and is our local "weather man" to many. He loves his boys dearly and spends the time playing and practicing basketball with them and playing Minecraft and Animal Crossing with them. He takes great care of my sister and the boys and has always put God and family first. He is the sole provider for their family. I have set up this go fund me page as DJ is currently in the ICU fighting for his life. On June 5th, 2021 DJ started to feel ill and was eventually tested for COVID and tested positive and has COVID pneumonia. His wife tested positive a day later. They were both hospitalized on Monday June 14th. DJ's wife, Amie, was able to come home and has been recovering. Unfortunately DJ was not able to be released. He was being treated in a close by hospital but was not showing improvement and we do not believe he was getting the proper care he needed. He was intubated and placed on a ventilator June 18th and was supposed to be transported by ambulance to a hospital in Nashville. Instead he was flown by med flight as they were not able to keep his oxygen levels stable. He was being flown for more urgent care and to be placed on an ECMO machine which only 2 hospitals in Nashville have and you have to qualify to be on one. When he arrived he was not stable enough for the surgery for the ECMO machine and my sister received the call that he would not make it on his current treatment of the ventilator. My sister was asked to come and sign a DNR and was told he wouldn't make it. This has been the hardest thing for their family. Explaining to your young sons they would never see their father again was devastating, especially on Father's day. Fortunately, DJ has been fighting and his stats are currently stable with help of meds and the ventilator. The prayers, love, and support that we have been receiving are overwhelming. While we have hope we are not giving our hopes up as DJ is still really sick and if he even recovers would have a long road of recovery. He is the current sole provider for his family and while his employer has been extremely supportive and helpful with working with my sister they can only do so much. Many of you have asked how you can help the family. This is why I made this page. Anything helps, no matter the size of the donation. We do ask that if you are unable to donate for whatever reason we completely understand and only ask that you pray for a miracle that he keeps fighting. Thank you again to everyone for your love, support, and prayers. It means the world to us to know DJ is loved and their family is as well.
