Our treasured Mam, Gina, received the most devastating news on 5th May 2026. We were told that she had bowel cancer which had spread to her lungs, liver, and other organs. Due to her existing health conditions, treatment was not an option.
As a family, we were heartbroken. We didn't know how much time we had left with our beautiful Mam, but sadly it was just 25 days. On 30th May 2026, Mam passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at Wansbeck Hospital.
From the moment of her diagnosis, we never left her side. We spent every possible moment with her, sleeping beside her on the ward and supporting her through her final days. During that time, all we wanted was to be able to lie beside her, hold her, and comfort her.
Because of this experience, we would like to raise funds for the Palliative Care Unit at Wansbeck Hospital to help provide a cuddle bed. These specialist beds allow loved ones to lie comfortably alongside patients, giving families precious moments of closeness and comfort during the most difficult times. We hope that by funding a cuddle bed, other families can spend those invaluable final moments together.
Mam also expressed that, in place of flowers at her funeral, she would prefer donations to be made to Parkinson's UK and Cancer Research. Parkinson's had recently had a significant impact on her health, making these charities especially close to her heart.
Any donation, no matter how small, as well as your love and support, is greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping us honour Mam's memory and create something positive in her name.
Thank you,
Kirsty and Clair x
