The Starks have touched SO MANY people in SO MANY ways. Their love and support for ANYONE at ANYTIME is innate to their character. So, I ask that if ever the Starks have touched your heart, helped you out, or even offered you some food - please, donate to support their next journey so they can continue to help others - ANYTHING HELPS: $5 or $1K .
Meet the Starks : Anyone who has had the golden opportunity to meet the Starks is probably now good friends with them! Briana and Ashley Starks are great parents to 3 children: Raquel (almost 8), Naomi (6), and Bianca (4).
Briana and Ashley have persisted through school while raising their children. Briana had two children while at community college and was accepted into the Nation's top public institution, UC Berkeley, where she excelled and more. She transferred to Berkeley when she was seven months pregnant with her third child. Many people doubted whether or not having a baby during midterms would be possible, but Briana completed the semester with a 4.0. Briana hates to ask for help, and that is why her friends and I want to step up and share her story with as many people as possible.
Briana graduated 2 years ago and continues to work with student parents at Cal, mentoring and advocating for each of the students that she comes in contact with on a daily basis. Briana is not only a mentor for other students, but she inspired her own husband to attend his local community college. Ashley also transferred to UC Berkeley as a first-generation, transfer, re-entry, student parent and will graduate with his BA in American Studies this August.
As Ashley is completing a part of his journey that did not look possible 8 years ago, both Briana and Ashley, and their children are once again entering a new journey towards success and achieving their goals to help their community. Last month, Briana accepted University of Michigan's offer letter for their Ph.D. program in Sociology where she hopes to study the structures and systems that support or hinder the success of student parents across the nation.
As we all know, moving across the country can be financially challenging for anyone, particularly for a family of new college graduates with three children. While Briana and Ashley both work multiple jobs to make ends meet, they have not been able to save enough money to make the trip and transition as smooth as possible for themselves and their children. Briana's program will be funded, but she will not receive that funding until school starts in September. To help them with their transition, moving costs, and two months worth of living costs, we are asking for your help in raising $8,000. Briana and Ashley have overcome so much to get to where they are today, and anything that you're able to give will help them get closer to following their dreams and modeling education for their three daughters.
