I am a heartbroken grandmother who doesn't know how best to help her children and her grandson....
Grant was born prematurely and had periventricular leukomalacia. At around 10 months it was determined that he needed a g-tube for feeding because he aspirates. Shortly after they realized there was more wrong than the obvious so at the age of 2 Grant was diagnosed with Dyskeratosis Congenita (DKC), a very rare congenital disease. At the time there was only 100 documented cases in the US. As time progressed he required a bone marrow transplant, in which they needed to totally destroy his immune system for the transplant. We were blessed by an exact match from a young man in Germany, which made the transplant a success!
Grant is now 10 years old, has had 42 surgical procedures to date. His latest hospital stay has resulted in a cancer diagnosis.
This family has had years of out-of-pocket medical expenses. The hospital they take him to is an hour away so for every hospital stay there is the added expense of travel, living away from home out of a hospital room, not to mention lost wages and other expenses.
In an effort to help them with ALL their expenses I wanted to start this GoFundMe account in hopes of lessening the burden on my family. We have a huge support system in place with family and friends who want to do something but don't know how to help. This is one way to make a prolonged difference in all their lives. Any contributions will be used immediately and in the near future to help with whatever needs the family has.
We ask that you please share this page on Facebook, via email and to anyone you feel would like to help make a difference. That said, we realize everyone is not in a position to give so we ask that you offer the family support in the way of prayer.
Regardless of the money contributed this family is grateful for all the love and support that has been offered throughout the years and throughout each and every hospital stay. We are praying for our faith to be strong and God's grace each and every day to get us through this ongoing journey. God is good..... Always!
