Hannah's Companion Dog
Donation protected
This is our gorgeous daughter Hannah. She is joyful, loving, excitable and cuddly enough to rival a teddy bear. Hannah loves the beach, books, movies, her sister, bubbles, playing chasey, being thrown around wildly by her dad and dogs.
Hannah also has an undiagnosed intellectual and physical disability causing jerky movements, seizures, sleep disturbances, feeding difficulties, anxiety, limited speech and she will require life-long care – at the age of 4 she is at a 1 year olds level of development. We are in the process of completing a full genome sequence in the hope of finding a diagnosis, but as yet we have had no luck.
We imagine that our hopes and dreams for our first-born child were the same as many parents. Our ideas about the relationship we would have with our daughter, the activities we would do together and the experiences we would share have had to change, a process we work through daily. We have adapted our life through a change in vocation and the place we call home in a hope to give Hannah more time, services, patience and opportunities so she can lead a happy and fulfilling life.
We are super excited because Hannah has an opportunity to have a companion dog provided through Dogs for Kids with Disabilities (DKD and DKD Facebook page). DKD is a non-for profit organisation and relies on donations to provide their incredible service. DKD improves the lives of children with disabilities by training and placing dogs with kids to provide comfort, companionship and assist with anxiety, meltdowns and general life.
Hannah’s LOVE of dogs and cuddles make her the perfect candidate for a companion dog. As parents we hope the dog will assist her speech by providing a safe space in which to whisper babbles into furry ears; provide an anchor in unfamiliar situations to calm her anxiety; encourage her movement through hours of playing chasey and most importantly be a faithful and loyal friend.
In order to have a companion dog we need to fundraise $9,000. And so, with incredibly humble and grateful hearts, we ask for your help. If you would like to contribute towards Hannah’s dog please donate here. Every donation helps and is deeply appreciated.
We thank you for helping us give the gift of companionship and so much more to our precious daughter Hannah.
Thank you,
Josh and Kelda
UPDATE:
We are over awed by all of your generosity and genuinely humbled by your kind words. Your gifts have enabled us to get a cherished gift for our daughter. We have reached our goal (insane!) and if there are no complaints we will place the rest in a "dog fund" to assist with food, vet bills etc and a donation to DKD so other kids can have the gift that you have given Hannah.
Thank you all not just for the donations but the support, it means more then you could imagine.
