UPDATE:
After speaking with Christine and Facetiming with the family, she has humbly accepted our willingess to help the Starke Family through this difficult time. Due to the length and severity of treatment, the family has decided to move from Fort Collins to Florida to enable Matt's comfort and recovery. The moving costs have been overwhelming, and have depleted their resources. I pray we all can help assist this family get through this challenging time!
In 1996 while serving our Country as a Navy SEAL stationed at SDVT-1, Matt learned he had an ogliodendriogioma (cancerous brain tumor.) After undergoing surgery to remove as much as the tumor as possible, Matt was left temporarily paralyzed from the neck down, and was riddled with seizures. After rigorous therapy, Matt learned how to walk and talk again. By 2004 the tumor had spread to the majority of Matt's brain. In the years since, he has undergone radiation and chemotherapy treatment leaving him sick and weak, and continually affecting his quality of life.
Unfortunately a recent scan showed the tumor has continued to grow, and Matt once again, starts brutal chemotherapy leaving him extremely sick, and has to wear a device called the Optune that is a skull cap and backpack for the next four to six months sending electric fields into his brain in hopes of slowing or stopping the growth.
Matt's pain has been extruciating, but he has perservered as no one else I know could have. Please help support this incredible family fight for Matt's life, and assist in the expenses they will incur during this journey. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt, Christine, and their five children!
