I created this page to raise $10,000 for my niece Tabitha's surgery and related expenses. Tabitha has Cerebral Palsy. She cannot walk due to Spasticity, which is a type of muscle tightness caused by abnormal communication between the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. Spasticity causes Tabitha great chronic pain and she is only 9 years old. The surgery is called Selecive Dorsal Rhizotomy. With this type of surgery, a small incision is made to the vertabrae in her spine. As a result, we are hoping her muscles will loosen and she will be able to walk and be free of pain. The surgery itself will last about 4 hours, and recovery time will take up to six weeks. It will take place in St. Paul, MN on November 23, 2016.
Tabitha's dad, Michael (my brother), will be with her. Her mom, Crystle, and older brother, Wesley, will have to remain at home in Iowa. Since the surgery is the day before Thanksgiving, the family will be not be together for the holidays.
My brother and his family has had too much of their share of medical worries. Last year, Michael lost one of his kidneys to cancer. We just found out this week that cancer spread to his brain and now he is undergoing radiation treatments.
I love my brother very much. I love my niece even more. She is a sweet girl with a lot of spunk. Will you, please, help me to help them? Anything you give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
