Melissa Lane was diagnosed with cervical cancer in February 2016. She quickly began treatment. She did months of grueling chemotherapy and radiation. She was so tough and courageous. She has inspired so many through her journey! After testing, we thought she had beat it. However, she began to notice swollen lymph nodes in her neck. She recently had more tests which showed the cancer had metastizied to the lymph nodes in her neck and thyroid. She has decided to keep fighting and her family and friends are supporting her in this decision. Melissa has a heart the size of Texas. She has 7 children, 6 of which still live at home. Her children range in age from 8-20. She has an appointment next week at Cancer Centers Of America in Tulsa and they will have a new treatment plan. As most of you know, she has a devoted husband who has been a strong source of support for her and has been with her every step of the way. He has used all of his vacation time and most of his FMLA. She will need him by her side to make it through this journey. The funds raised will go to help make up for his lost income. This will help with bills, food and basic needs of this large family. I know Melissa's heart and she has helped numerous people in their time of need. The last fundraiser she did was a rummage sale at her home. It was for a friend of hers who had been diagnosed with cancer and needed help. She did this just after her treatment had been completed and she was not feeling well at all. This shows you the type of person she is. She has adopted 3 children who needed the love and support of a forever family. Two of her children have special needs. She goes above and beyond for others and now she needs us to go above and beyond for her and her family! As she broke the news to me Friday, and explained to me what the doctor had told her, she said something that really sticks out in my mind. She said, "I'm not a statistic, I'm a fighter!" Anything you can give is greatly appreciated. She is a child of God and believes in the healing power of prayer and in miracles. Prayers are welcome and greatly appreciated.
