Hurricane Mathew for Julio and myself brings back many memories of the 2010 Haiti earthquake which we experienced first hand: the despair, the devastation, the mass graves and the onslaught of cholera! With the death toll now over 1000 and likely to continue to rise, the Haitian people again find themselves in dire need of medicine, food, water, clothing, and household essentials. Many have nothing at all with some communities being wiped out 80-90%.

Julio is a Haitian citizen living in Edmonton, Alberta for the past 39 years. Together we returned to Haiti in 2007 and from that day vowed to help the Haitian community. We happened to be setting up a business in Haiti when the 2010 catastrophic earthquake struck. We provided medical assistance for a couple of days and remained in Haiti to purchase / deliver food and supplies for distribution. Since 2008 we have been doing humanitarian work in Haiti.
Our initiatives have included things such as:
- funding school fees and books for children in Les Cayes, and our local community of Kenscoff
- providing access to water for the community of Darak
- delivering medical supplies to various clinics,
- purchasing and delivering food
- gathering and delivering various supplies to a couple of orphanages. (Mission of Grace)
- and from a fun aspect, providing movie nights for children in the tent camps and orphanages as well as providing xmas gifts/movie night to the community of Darak.
We did most of this solo. NOW WE NEED YOUR HELP! We can't do this without you!
Funds raised would go to:
- medicine (electrolytes / pedialyte - to help reduce risk of dehydration especially for children under 5 years of age, tylenol, vitamins, etc.)
- water purification products - to reduce the spread of cholera - and provide pure drinking water.
- food & supplies
- All supplies will be hand delivered directly to where it needs to go.
We have a compassionate network of individuals who have been helping us throughout the years and who are ready to help in the distribution.
We thank all of you for taking the time to read this and thank you in advance for any donation (even the smallest amount) you are able to give.
From the bottom of our hearts and on behalf of the people in Haiti, we THANK YOU
Julio and Peggy Rivera
