Helping Ted who was found dragging his back legs

Hello, my name is Kate Motsko and I am an animal rescue here in San Antonio texas. I initially saw Ted’s post on Facebook where he was shown dragging his hind legs walking down the street and I just knew that I had to do something to help him. I connected with the rescuer who had made the post and went out there to try to trap him. I was able to get him to one of my veterinary friends who has extensive work with paralyzed dogs.

After x-rays, we found out that Ted has actually been shot by someone and has a L3 L4 (spinal) gunshot wound leaving him paralyzed. His paws were rubbed raw from dragging them on the concrete behind him just trying to stay alive. This is still a very new wound so I’m hoping by catching it earlier we can reverse some of the damages but Ted has a long road ahead of him.

We found out today that he is negative for all tick and intestinal parasitic infections as well as Heartworms so that is a huge plus.There is still a wait-and-see game about what we can do for Ted when it comes to his bowels and bladder. I have been expressing his bladder, but it has been painful for him lately. He spent the night at the vet so he could have the best aseptic techniques for catheter placement that I can’t offer at home. The doctor had sent out his x-rays to a specialist for a consultation to determine what the next steps would be. The specialist recommended we start with a CT to get more specifics of how severe the damage is and the best course of future treatment. His vet bills and pain meds are adding up and right now I’m trying to raise funds to give Ted the absolute best possible opportunity to survive and thrive.
