Filiangel Morales Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Filiangel, or as most of us know him - Fili - has been diagnosed with testicular cancer with non-seminoma germ cell tumors which have spread to lymph nodes in his stomach.  Fili was having pain in various parts of his body for some time and just not feeling well overall.  These symptoms finally became prevalent enough that he went to have a check-up.  Tests quickly showed that Fili has a massive testicular tumor.  The specialist immediately sent Fili for further tests to determine whether the cancer has spread.  Unfortunately the CT scan and bloodwork revealed that the cancer was not localized to the testicles, and had in fact spread.  The first step for treatment is to remove the tumor and testicle on October 19th.  After surgery, further testing will dictate the protocol however chemotherapy and radiation treatments are imminent and there is the possibility of further surgeries.

Fili is an Arizona native, raised in south Phoenix by his single mom Sally.  She remarried to Fili's stepfather Alex and together they had Fili's brother Michael.  The family is extremely close and their lives are tightly woven with one another.

Fili has worked most of his adult life in the food and beverage industry, and it is very likely he has served you a meal or drink at some point in your relationship with him.  He is a hard working, passionate, caring, artistic individual with a special affinity for music and the arts.  Fili has dj'd for most of his adult life, immersing  himself in the arts and culture scene of downtown Phoenix and Tempe.

At this time, Fili does not have any medical insurance.  He was recently denied state funded insurance but is reapplying and researching all other options to get as much assistance with the colassal medical costs which await him and his family.  His parents are willing to do whatever is needed, including taking out a second mortgage on their humble home.  We are hoping to avoid this path, however, since Fili's parents are already working hard enough and a second mortgage would likely put them in financial hardship of their own.  Fili continues to work as a server at a restaurant in Scottsdale - even as I write this, he is at work. He is throwing himself into his job as a way to stay positive and to shift his focus.  However, the surgeries and treatments which await him will demand that he lose income for significant stretches of time.

All of the money we hope to raise - every cent - will go toward Fili's medical expenses.  We have no idea how much those costs will be, and the goal we have set with this account is somewhat arbitrary.  However we are certain this amount is extremely modest and may not cover all that will come up.  Sadly, most of us have had cancer touch our lives and so we all know, this process is one step at a time and there are many unknown variables.

These fundraising accounts are truly successfull if people embrace the idea that any and every donation is relevant and overwhelmingly helpful.  Please, anything at all you are willing to contribute is a blessing and will be received with deep gratitude.

When an individual is faced with such devastating news, it is sad to watch them struggle with all of the financial aspects of the situation rather than to give them the opportunity to process what is happening.  Stress is one of the most prevalent contributors to illness and depression in our culture.  Lets all do what we can to lighten the financial burden - even just a little - so that Fili can focus on healing and so that he and his family can feel the love and support that surrounds them.

Fili has been my dear friend for over 6 years.  His family has been like a family to me and to my son during all of those years.  I have spent holidays with them and they have shown me and my son deep unconditional love every step of the way.   Fili has made me laugh, think, dance, sing and most importantly he has reminded me repeatedtly of my own strengths.  Those of us who are his friends and family know that he is generous in every way, especially with his unique style of loving and appreciating the people in his life.

Lets do this.  Our friend needs us.  Remember to share this account on your social media pages.  There are angels out there who contribute to strangers all the time.

With much gratitude and love,
