Joleen Olson Ash Cancer Fund

At the beginning of September, my life-long friend, Joleen, was diagnosed with breast cancer. Though in the initial stages, the doctors have termed it an 'angry' cancer and immediate treatment is required.  Jo has been through 28 biopsies and two MRI’s over the past weeks. She is scheduled to have surgery October 19th and will begin eight weeks of daily radiation treatments shortly after. Unfortunately, as her battle unfolds the medical bills have already started to arrive, an added daily stress to this already challenging scenario! The average cost of treating breast cancer in the U.S. is $128,000. Even with the hope of insurance covering portions,  the remaining balance is daunting.  

Ever since I met Joleen in high school, she has always been the one who has stepped in to help others with her time, giving of emotional support, physical support and also financial help.  Countless times, Jo has been the one organizing help for others including feeding the homeless and supporting families and friends going through hard times, but now she is the one who is in need!  Joleen lives a simple life; her greatest joy is her darling grandson, Wesley, whom she cares for several days during the week.
