Last night we were hit by Hurricane Matthew here in Hinesville Georgia. Thankfully we are safe and sound! Many have been inquiring about our family in Haiti. We were very worried for them, but are happy to report that they are all safe as well!
Although we were inside of a strong house to protect us from the storm, last night when the winds were blowing and the rain was coming strong we felt a little worried for our safety. We couldn't help but think of those people in Haiti, who when the hurricane hit had nothing but a tarp or thin pieces of sheet metal to shield them from the fierce winds and debris. We laid awake and tried to comprehend the 900 plus lives that were taken in Haiti. It wasn’t hard to imagine the devastation of those who lost homes or loved ones because we too have experienced that loss. We’ve seen first-hand just how devastating natural disasters are, especially in Haiti. We were there in 2008 when a hurricane devastated Nat’s hometown of Gonaieves and are forever changed by the experiance. It was then that we knew that helping people in Haiti was part of our mission in life.

We know there are people right now praying to God for food to give their children and to fill their own bellies so that they can keep going as they try to rebuild their lives. It's strange, but we feel their pain and we hear their cries and we want, and feel the strong need, to help!
Asking for money is our least favorite thing and many of our friends have already been so generous to our efforts to help Haiti, but money is what will help and there are many who will greatly benefit. If you have been wondering how you can do to help, please donate! We promise you that you will be tremendously blessing the lives of many.
If we raise the funds we need we will be able to go to Haiti to help with the relief efforts. We will be leaving in about a week to give time for the roads to clear. Our family lives in the north of Haiti and the damage was done to the south of Haiti. Because we aren't as familiar with that area Nat’s brother, who recently returned from a mission in the south of Haiti, will accompany us. He personally knows people in need in areas that may not get the aid provided by larger organizations. We also got word today that our friend’s orphanage in Leogane was flooded and are in need of food and clothes for the children.
Our plan is to fly into Port-Au-Prince, rent a truck or SUV, purchase food and supplies in the capital or Northern part of the country and take them to people in the south who need them. Food, water and basic hygiene supplies are the urgent need and we are going to make sure they get them.
We will be using the funds for our travel to Haiti, renting the truck and purchasing the food and supplies for the people affected by the hurricane. We have less than a week to raise these funds! This means so much to us and are thankful to those who share our love for helping those in need!
Our hearts are with Haiti! We know we can help and there are people at this moment counting on it. If you don't personally know us, and would like to know more about our love for the people in Haiti you can learn more by following Hayley on Instagram @hayleyulien as she’ll be posting detailed stories and pictures of how your donation helped! Please donate, share and pray for Haiti!
