My dad is amazing, simply incredible man!
And this is his story...

On Saturday July, 30th, he fell off his 2-story deck shattering 2 vertebraes and cracking a third on his spinal cord. He was in SICU at Regions Hopital for 10 full days moving over to Rehab at Regions for another13 days. He was then transferred over to the VA Spinal Cord Injury Unit for another long 45 days.
As you likley know, the accident left him without any feeling or movement from the waist down confining him to a wheelchair.

He's been through a tremendous time over those 68 days having tubes down his throat and up his nose, needles in his arms, doctors and nurses galore, loud machines hooked up to him 24/7, and countless hours of therapy working harder and with more determination than I have ever seen anyone display! But perhaps most importanly, he had SO many people by his side supporting him, cheering for him and believeing in him the entire time!
Love is a powerful thing and in my dad's case, it has proven to dramatically influence his ability to get through this.

He was transferred home on Thursday, October 6th. The VA provided him with a kick ass titanium wheelchair, a power "lift" seat for their vehicle, a "Stair Glide" machine to get him up and down the stairs, and even a hospital bed for his bedroom in addition to all the medical supplies and therapy sessions however there are still many more modifications that need to be made.

There are still a growing number of additional accomodations/modifications that still need to be made that the VA will NOT cover.  Ever since the accident, people have been asking me what they can do to help and until now, I really wasn't sure what to say. Moving forward, I now have a crystal clear idea of what all still needs to be done:
The main floor bathroom must be completely renovated with a roll in shower, removal of some walls, new vanity, and a widened doorway.
The downstairs will also require some modifications including the widening of a couple of doorways, modifying the bathroom and a new recliner specifically designed for an easier transfer to and from a wheelchair.

These modifications are proving to be very expensive at  well over $20,000 but we are not asking for help with all of it, only some of it. We have set a goal of just $10,000 to help us subsidize the growing expenses involved with helping his sustain a "normal" life.

It has been a very long journey and will continue to be, but we are all staying positive and praying for the best possible outcome. We have received so much help and support, so many loving messages and phone calls that we are SO GRATEFUL!!

THANK YOU!!
