Deb & Hank's Taxes & Car Repair
Donation protected
My name is Deb van Loon. My husband, Hank, was paralyzed fifteen years ago in a snowmobile accident and we have since struggled financially. I worked full time for many years after the accident while also taking care of our three daughters and helping my husband adjust to being paralyzed. It was difficult beyond words. The past few years have been even more tight financially because I had to stop working to become a full-time caregiver for my husband who has had many complications relating to his paralysis. I do have a part-time job as a back-up limo driver, but it is not consistent work. All three of our daughters have gone through college (our youngest is in her third year) and we try to help them with any expenses they may not be able to handle, but it is tough. We live off of $860 a month from social security, barely scraping by on our basic needs month to month. Monthly, we have bills for our mortgage ($420), automotive and home insurance (430), utilities (about $200), and oil (about $200). As you can see, we obviously cannot pay all of our bills with the little we get from social security. We have been lucky enough to have friends and family help with these needs over the years, but we are exhausting our resources. Recently we've had to deal with our car needing costly repairs in order to be inspected and driveable. We need the car (a 2002 Chevy Tahoe) to get to doctors appointments and we cannot buy a new car because we don't have that kind of money. The body and frame work for the car is going to be about $2,700; the tires, brakes, and master cylinder are going to equal about $3,400. Altogether it will be about $6,100. We are also trying to raise money for our property taxes, which, along with everything else, has been impossible to pay. The July bill, which we haven't paid anything on, is just over $900 and we will be getting another bill for $900 in December (altogether, about $1,800 for property taxes). Worrying about money 24/7 is exhausting, so if we can have just a little relief from this struggle, it would be much appreciated by my husband, my three daughters, and myself. Please consider donating. We are nearly out of options. Thank you very much!
