Help Lucy's Hard Working Husband

My family was given the saddest news ever in the begining of March, knowing our lives would change forever if my mom's cancer was back-regardless we stayed hopeful and positive every day. We prayed every night after her CT scan in February,  the Oncologist called my Mom the first week of March with the most devasting news, her uterine cancer was back. I cried when she called me to tell me the sad news, I did research every day and finding out this cancer was so rare started to decrease my hope for a cure but I felt I had to save my mom. Kaiser offered no options to help my Mom with this recurring cancer, I knew I had to step in-with the help and encouragement of my family, friends and co-workers I continued to do lots of research. Call after call, websites, messages, emails, texts to friends, I found a well known Surgical Oncologist at UCSD. I asked her current Oncologist for a referral and he declined my request, he stated she only had weeks-months to left to live. I accepted and continued my journey to get help, I hand delivered my Mom's medical records to UCSD and they didn't want to accept them because she had a different health plan-so I registered her as "self-pay" not knowing what would happen. The kind gentleman accepted her medical records and my letter to the surgeon, I received a call from UCSD and the surgeon said "surgery was doable", my family was stoked to know we had potentially found a surgeon that could save our Mom! After weeks of being at Kaiser and convincing my Mom and Dad it was time to go to UCSD, my dear friend helped with the transfer and we ended up signing an AMA . Kaiser did nothing to help my Mom-40+ years of having health insurance with them!  When my mom arrived to UCSD they were very welcoming and the surgeon arrived to my Mom's room the very next morning to evaluate her and see if she would be a good candidate for surgery. Unfortunately he saw her to weak and couldn't operate her anymore, he said he would reevaluate her if she got better. He needed for her to be able to walk again and be stronger for this long compliacted surgery. My mom's health kept declining and I called his office in hopes of an operation regardless of the outcome. He again evaluated her and said she was weaker than when he first saw her. We were all sad and devasted. He at least gave our family hope and we are forever grateful for that. Our Dad, siblings and several family members and close friends were with us on a daily basis for support, help and to keep our Mom company 24/7. She's always loved everyone as if they were her own, greatest heart, sense of humor and willing to help anyone at anytime. Yesterday, our Mom lost her battle to cancer. It was the saddest day ever for our family. She has always kept us together, united, strong, cared for us unconditionally and she will live in our hearts forever. I asked my Dad how I could help financially and he said he has been working all his life-and he has, he told me he was "ok". I know that after being married to my Mom for 44 years, he isn't "ok". I'm not sure how he will pay for all the funeral costs, I just know he feels he is responsible-we don't come from a wealthy family, we work like everyone else and live paycheck by paycheck. Our Mom was an extraordinary and amazing stay at home Mom, my Dad was always the provider-working hard for his family and now it's time to for me and my siblings to try and help him in any way possible. I know he will be grateful, nothing will bring our Mom back but she has wonderful children that will do whatever to help our parents. I would like to see him retire soon, he needs a break. I promised my Mom I would take care of her old man and it's our time to give back for everything they've ever done for us. I hope everyone could help by sharing and remember every $1 is greatly appreciated-thank you all from the bottom of my heart...
