Three Ways to Help Right Now: Give, Pray and Pass the word.
Financial Goal: $60,000.00
As many of you know, Dave was diagnosed with throat cancer in early August. All of us who love him are grateful that: 1) the prognosis is hopeful and 2) he has medical insurance. That, however, does not mean that the next six months will be without steep challenges. Dave’s in a real battle. He needs the support of all of us whose lives are better and brighter for knowing him.
Dave will undergo chemo and radiation therapy through the end of the year. Then he’s likely to need time to recuperate from the effects of these brutal treatments. That means he’ll be unable to work for many, many months. While his health insurance will cover the cost of treatments and most medications; there are lots of bills that it won’t cover. It won’t cover the basics: housing, food, utilities etc. And it won’t cover the cost of in-home care—which he will need. In Washington, D.C. in cost of a skilled, in-home care provider is about $30.00 an hour. That quickly adds up to thousands of a week! We don’t know yet how serious the effects of the chemo and radiation will be. Nor do we know how much care Dave will need; but we do know that he’ll need some care from professionals and we know that it won’t be cheap.
Many of you have already sent kind words of encouragement and care. Those messages have lifted Dave’s spirits. He’s grateful and a wee bit uncomfortable. If you know anything about Dave, you know that he’d much rather give than receive help and support. He has given a great deal to all of us. Now it’s our turn, whether he likes it or not, to help him out.
