Remembering Nancy Pichardo

On Tuesday oct 4, 2016 nancy went in for surgery to have her aortic heart valve replaced. After a short 3 hours she was out of surgery and on her way to recovery. After spending 24 hours in ICU she was then transferred to the cardiac floor where she was to be discharged from 4 days later. All the nurses and doctors assured us she was doing very well and we got to see her awake and even made her laugh. Her children went to see her the night of oct 3 and were told she had been walking and doing great despite the occasional pain due to the breastbone being broken for open heart surgery. We kissed her goodbye and promised we would come see her the next morning. The following morning at 745am we got a call from the hospital saying we needed to be at the hospital immediately. They called twice and we got there in 5 minutes. As they took us and sat us in the ICU the surgeon came in to talk with us and told us that after a routine removal of a wire that was attached to her heart for the surgery, the wire must've pulled a piece of her heart out and she bled out. She lost ALL her blood and they couldn't save her.

Our beloved mom, Nancy, was an amazing and loving person. A wonderful and devoted grandmother, friend, mother, sister, cousin, you name it. This was unexpected for all of us and I'm sure for her as well.
We are currently trying to raise money to help with cremation costs, then transportation of her remains to New York where most of her family members are to have a ceremony at a church for her. She passed away in Florida. We also need to finally transport her remains to Dominican Republic where her final resting place will be, alongside her mother.
