Help Dan Rebuild his New Life!

Friends, acquaintances and family of Dan Flowers - Around 2pm on Tuesday October 4th on his way from Lake County to an appointment in Windsor Dan was involved in a solo vehicle crash causing major injuries. When we realized several hours later that he was missing several of us went looking in the rural mountain terrain on highway 175 - Hopland Grade. We searched well into the early hours of Thurday morning to no avail. A few hours later a woman traveling the route after sunrise noticed some small skid marks on the road and was thoughtfull enough to stop and check it out. Dan was extracted via the jaws of life and airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. It's my understanding that the truck was in such bad shape that it took over 30 minutes to remove him! Upon my arrival to the Hospital I was briefed on his condition before being led in to the E.R. I was told that they were monitoring his brain and there was no activity and hadn't been since he arrived. I was also told that he had a severe/critical break in his spine at his neck. If they moved him he would die, their surgeon was uncomfortable performing the procedure and there was little more they or anyone could do. They asked me for contacts of his immediate family members. They prepared him and moved him to the Intesive care unit and proceeded with a last ditch effort to warm his body temperature to see if there would be any sign of brain activity ( he was hypothermic from being in the cold all night long). To everyone's amazement a miracle was delivered. Dans condition improved within the matter of hours. He awoke to the sound of his fiancé voice telling him he couldn't leave her not like this and that his family specifically an 11 year old step daughter needed him. The two are inseparable. At first what was a twitch of an eyelid (discredited by the nurse) manifested into yes and no head movement then to a normal speaking, functioning Dan! The doctors were in shock "this is the type of stuff you read in a text book and I nor my colleagues have ever heard about or witnessed anything like this". So now comes the 2nd part. Dan was scheduled for spine surgery this morning at 8 am and last I heard still in surgery (it's 3pm). This is a very serious and complex surgery. If everything goes well they expect that he will still be a paraplegic. Prior to the surgery he has no feeling from his chest down. As horrible as that sounds Dan seemed in good spirit and happy to be alive. The families financial state wasn't great before this tragedy and is certainly going to be a lot worse. I've already contributed a bit myself to try and help an plan to continue to do so. I can't do this alone and I'm asking for help from anyone who reads this and can help whether financially, emotionally or through prayer for Dan as he has a long road of recovery. Life as he and Aileen knew it is over and they well have to adjust to his new realities. Not only loss of wages, traveling to hospital etc. but there will be added expenses for wheelchair accessibility, his mortgage and basic survival for months and years to come. Please help if you can! Feel free to inbox me if you have any questions. Thanks! Gerard.
