Beehives For Bridgeports Kids

Hello Friends! My name is Alex Currie. I am the Founder of The Pink Pom-Pom Project (EIN 61-1713080), a charity which provides art therapy and life skill workshops to cancer survivors and at-risk children through out Fairfield County.

Some of you may or may not know that I have taken up Beekeeping in the last 3 years. I started this new 'hobby' just out of curiousity and to help me get over my fear of bees. Just having done my due diligence about the life of a bee drew me and now I am committed!

Once stung by the fabulous little creatures you cannot go back. The life of a bee, the Queen and its colony is fascinating and something we all need to preserve in these questionable environmental times.

What kills bees? Something called Colony Colapse Disorder (CCD) and it is very real. Mainting the health of a hive and the Queen is pertinent. Predators like mice, wasps and even moths are a constant threat. As well as humans. Yes, even Us.

I have been working with at-risk youth for almost 5 years now all through out Bridgeport, CT. I installed hives at the athletic field for The Cardinal Shehan Center to teach The Environmental Club kids all about Beekeeping and their ecological necessity to the environment. Without them we won't exist for much longer. That's a fact. They pollinate flowers and trees to keep our food growing. If they die, we die too.

Please help us raise enough money for an additional 15 hives with proper equipment, protective gear, and wooden hives. These hives will be placed on other plots of land in conjunction with other Community Centers through out Bridgeport to teach more children.

From this new program children will not only learn a new vocation, but how to make honey based food products, candles, and even skin care development to sell in local stores.

We need the funds as soon as possible to work with an Apriary in upstate CT to reserve 15 Nucs to install all over Bridgeport. We order more bees in January 2017.

Please think of Phillip, Maria, Stephanie, Natalie, Kayla, Amaris, Samuel, Lauren and Marco when making a donation. These children range from 8 to 13 years and make up this year's Environmental Club at The Cardinal Shehan Center.

The Pink Pom-Pom Project is a 501(c)3 charity, EIN 61-1713080. We can provide a letter of confirmation of your donation.

Thank you for your considerations and donation!
