Baby Jonah's brain tumor fund
Donation protected
My name is Michelle Turner. I am Baby Jonah Burton's aunt. Jonah has been a smart loving baby in his short little life this far. A little more than week ago Jonah started crying and repeating to my mother "Nana head hurt". He then started to have trouble walking straight and falling down often. Jonah's mother Rachel Mathews took him to Conway Medical Center where she was told he had a very bad ear infection and it was making him unstable. They were sent home with antibiotics. Each day that passed he became more unstable, crying, having trouble focusing his eye movement and eventually no longer able to walk. Rachel then wanted a second opinion and took Jonah to Waccamaw Hospital where doctors ran test and found a large mass on the back of his brain. Rachel and Jonah was then transported to the Childerns Hospital at MUSC in Charleston, South Carolina. Doctors quickly went to work to relieve the pressure and fluid that had built up on his brain. During the long process of putting in the drains Jonah could no longer breath on his own and was placed on a ventilator. The following morning he had a whole neurology team come in to assess his case. The team is confident that Jonah an aggressive cancerous tumor that they will not be able to remove the entire tumor. The tumor is deeply intertwined into the nerves in his brain. The doctors have started giving Jonah steriods to prepare him for surgery so that he will have his best chances. The doctors will preform a long 6 to 8 hour surgery tomorrow morning. They are hoping to get as much as possible of the tumor and are preparing him for cemo after surgery. Seeing my sweet little baby nephew helpless with a shaved head and tubes coming from him was the saddest moment for me. Jonah is the youngest boy of my brother Shane Burton and Rachel Mathews. Shane and Rachel have two older boys who are Eli 5 years old and Noah who is 4 years old. When Jonah became sick his father had been out of town for work in Wyoming. Rachel is now in Charleston, SC with Jonah which is two hours from there home in Conway, SC where little Eli and Noah are staying with myself and verious other family members. My brother Shane was not able to get a flight out of the small town he was in so he is now driving straight from Wyoming to be with his family. Our family just a week ago exsperienced the loss of my aunt. Many people are praying for our family and we are forever thankful for all prayers and donations to help with the exspenses that have already began to add up. The doctors are exspecting Jonah to be in MUSC in Charleston, SC at least two weeks just for the recovery of the brain surgery. Baby Jonah, Rachel, Shane, and the whole family all have a long hard road a head of us. As much as both Rachel and Shane want to stay at Jonah's side they also will have to make the two hour drive often due to big brothers Eli and Noah are still in need of their parents in Conway, SC.
