I am Larry Quigley. I have had spinal cord injury for 35 years. I have done well until: I am now on cycle two of Chemo treatment for an aggressive cancer of the bladder, Sarcomitoid muscle invasive. I am raising money to offset extra medical, food, car payments, and possible relocation expenses related to my treatment.
I will use the money first to stay out of monthly debt. I currently live on SSDI at less than $12,000 per year.
My mobility is greatly improved if I can keep my car (I currently make payments). That is in jeopardy. I have a 2009 Chevrolet Impala LT that I owe about $8000. I have been able to defer payments to meet my chemo expenses and food and over the counter prescriptions, gasoline to treatment, parking and copays. I expect these to increase significanly over the next few months.
I also have a dream to fund a competitive hand cycle and run my first Ragbrai next year. Any extra help would then go toward that goal.
I anticipate needing funds by October 2016 but anything sooner or ongoing would be appreciated.
The people that know me also know I am independent and use a manual chair and push everywhere. I am in good physical condition but that may change. My friends know I take care of myself and have managed to balance my budget without asking for help. I do not ask this easily.
This is an imortant point in my life. I have a 18 year old son who will be attending college. I have had shared primary custody since he was three. I have worked with his mother for his benefit over the years. I would like to be able to travel to his college and help him as I always have.
I believe that those who can give for this cause will be helping me out in ways that I cannot express. Saying thank you will not be enough I am sure. I am not a religious person but have my own beliefs. I would hope that anyone contributing will not do this in the name of religious duty. For those who are truly touched and want to help, my plea goes out to you. Out of your generous kindness my life possibilities will be bettered.
