Hello Friends, Family and Community,
I am starting this fund for my mom, Ellen Bogue. My mom is someone who has always cared for others, a rare gem, she genuinely cares. She is deeply compassionate and has spent her lifetime giving. From caring for her younger siblings, to working as a mental health nurse, raising me as a single parent and starting a Mental Health Peer Support and Recovery service where there was nothing prior. She has worked with mentally ill people and families for 50 years, often going into the community and assisting during a crisis, free of charge. She is a loving, beautiful, strong and sweet soul.
Our family is in the midst of a very challenging time, and though it is difficult to ask for help, we are in a position where we must. As some of you may know I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May. My wonderful mom was caring for me during my post op recovery for a bi-lateral mastectomy.
On September 12th, 2016 she was driving my 7 year old daughter to school when one of her hands went numb. She was on the freeway. With the strength of her will, and love for her grandaughter; she drove my daughter to school, and herself to the emergency room. She was rushed to UCSF for testing and ultimately brain surgery.
My mother and best friend was diagnosed with brain cancer. The surgery was successful, and she is healing from the procedure. However, this type of cancer requires that she follow a radiation and chemotherapy regimen over a period of months. She was working up until the day that this happened. Due to the severity of the treatment, she will be unable to work for an undefined period of time.
This fund will be used to supplement her social security income, which cannot cover all of her expenses along with additional travel and treatment related costs.
Thank you with love and gratitude,
Gaea
