Hola comunidad, thank you for taking the time to read these words that are very painful to write.
Our brother Luis had a motorcycle accident the day after Thanksgiving. It was midnight when the police knocked on my mother’s door.
There was an angel on the scene - a nurse who witnessed everything and stopped to help my brother as he lay on the highway. She kept him conscious while the ambulance arrived. ( whoever you are, we thank your hands and heart).
When Luis arrived at the hospital, he was taken immediately into surgery. His brain was bleeding and so was his right lung.( As shown in the image of the doctor’s notes, written on the back of a gauze pad to give my mother some understanding of what was happening)
After surgeries on his spine, pelvis and two intestines, he remained in an induced coma. His right ribs are completely broken, and his ankle too. We can still hear the doctor’s words “be hopefully realistic”; his chart reflected the impossible- too much damage.
We like to think that Luis negotiated with God and after resolving their dispute, he opened his eyes and moved all of his extremities. After 13 days in the ICU, after 13 days of having flown out from his motorcycle, against all the odds - Luis woke up.
There is a long road ahead…
A brain stroke is confirmed, and he is currently taking physical and speech therapy at the hospital. We hope he will be home soon. What life will look like in the coming months or year is uncertain but we remain strong and hopeful - that Luis will continue to show that his chart doesn’t speak for himself.
So, we are asking for you to consider donating to his Medical/Recovery fund. To help cover deductibles, medicines, therapies and life changing resources that are already much needed.
We honor your support as he recovers and we believe we will be witness of Luis having the opportunity to live the life he dreamed of... and to grab another sun with his hands alongside us.
Thank you for reading,
Please donate or share with your community
.. and don’t forget to hug your loved ones today.
*( if you are in the austin area, there will be a taquiza in March to continue to raise funds)*
