Hello, My name is Christina and I'm The Barnard family's friend and neighbor. I've had several people reach out with how they can help this sweet family. As many of you know, their daughter Brooke is fighting with everything she has. If you can help, I know that they will be so appreciative. Here are the updates from her mom....

 

 

2/10 PM Update from Kim:

God is so good!! All of your prayers are working and we are so thankful for every single one of them!!  
The neurosurgeon said surgery went well. Praise God! He removed the front part of her skull and was able to remove most of the bacteria, which is being tested. Antibiotics should continue fighting the infection. They are still trying to get her stabilized.
We still have a long way to go. He said her brain was very angry. The next few hours and days are very critical, but the neurosurgeon said he's optimistic, which eases the weight we are feeling at least a little bit. Our biggest prayer right now is to get her brain fully restored.
It is extremely painful to see her like this. We know she is a fighter and we are doing our best to stay positive. Thank you all so much for the prayers (please keep them coming), the calls, texts, meals, all of it. It has definitely made us feel loved!
I can't wait to be able to tell Brooke how many people have her back! Love you all!

2/10: Definitely has some type of meningitis. They need to find out what caused it so they know how best to treat it. She's been on 3 different antibiotics since we were admitted that treat for most bacteria. There has been no improvement, her communication is worsening, she's not alert. Can still react to light and will sometimes respond to commands. They do believe other things are going on. I just need my baby back. I need to hear her voice. I need to know she's going to be herself again.

2/10 Am: She was moved to ICU around 11 last night bc her heart rate dropped between 20-30 bpm during the MRI. She's even more unresponsive. Not talking at all now. They've not seen anything like this, so we still haven't gotten a diagnosis. Please continue praying for complete healing.

UPDATE 2/9 PM: EEG shows sub clinical seizures. They've started her on meds tonight. Still waiting for MRI and more blood work.

UPDATE: She is still very unresponsive 99% of the time, but can follow directions, not talking. We still don't know exactly what is going on. She has inflammation around her brain. Waiting to do MRI and results from the EEG. She had an ultrasound of her heart and they don't see any inflammation there.

We need help guys! We can use all the prayers for Brooke. She was admitted into the hospital overnight. Still running lots of tests on her, but they're almost certain she has MIC-S (Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children is a serious condition that appears to be linked to COVID-19. Most children who become infected with the COVID-19 virus have only a mild illness. But in children who go on to develop MIS-C, some organs and tissues — such as the heart, lungs, blood vessels, kidneys, digestive system, brain, skin or eyes — become severely inflamed). They're checking her for meningitis as well.

We already know her liver is inflamed. Waiting on results for her heart and for them to check her other organs. She's not eaten or drank much at all since Thursday and has been given fluids at the hospital twice in the last couple days before finally getting to a hospital that's providing us with amazing care. She had a seizure since we were admitted and is having trouble breathing and chest pain. She is in an altered mental state...not knowing basic things about herself and not at all acting like herself.
