Genghis's gunshot recovery fund

Donation protected
Genghis was shot sometime on the night of Saturday, October 1st. Sunday evening the neighbors found Genghis underneath an awning in their front yard and notified us.

He was rushed to the vet where they determined that he had a severe fracture of the left femur. After an x-ray was taken, it was determined that surgery could be done to repair the bone, using plates, pins, and a bone graft.

The surgery was performed Monday night. Tuesday morning we were informed by the doctor that this was clearly a gunshot wound. An entry and exit wound were easily spotted after he had been shaved, and he showed no signs of being hit by a car, as we had originally assumed.

Genghis must be confined to a crate for at least the next 4 weeks. For another 4 weeks after that he will only be allowed low impact, non-arobatic activity. He will have to wear a cone for at least three first 3 weeks. He must have a warm cloth applied to his incision area 2 to 3 times a day. He currently has a fentanyl patch that will deliver his pain mess for the next 3-5 days. He was also given a long acting antibiotic injection. Additionally, he will be taking anti inflammatory medication for the next 3 days.

Genghis will require a recheck in about 5 days, his staples removed in 2 weeks, and radiographs taken every 3 to 4 weeks after to evaluate his healing progess.

The surgery and associated expenses has already cost just over $6000. However that does not include the costs we will incur for his continuing recovery treatment.
