Shannon's Train Trips for Radiation
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Shannon and I need some help. In June of 2016, I found a lump in my neck. Normally I tend to ignore such things, but I was urged to see a doctor. So after a few visits, I was sent to a specialist for a biopsy. As it turns out I was diagnosed with Squamus Cell Carsonoma. In other words...I have cancer. Its the scariest six letter word i can imagine. However, I am coming to terms with this diagnosis and see it as a gift from the Lord. God has been so good to me, and I know that He will do what is best.
The reason I need your help, is for the upcoming days and weeks. Part of the "treatment" that has been prescribed to me is a series of two surgeries. These surgeries should be able to deal with the cancer in such a way that I may be able to avoid radiation and/or chemo. However these surgeries have to be done in Philadelphia....more percisely, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
Because of the distance involved, and nature of my current situation, it will be most convient to take the train from Lancaster to Philadelphia. But, this adds a financial strain that we may not be able to cover as currently I am only working part-time and have a family of 7.

*** UPDATE***
All of you have been amazing, you have shared so much with us already. Now I still need some help.
I have had both surgeries as stated above, actually my surgery count is now three with in the past 60 days. I would like to think that the worst is behind me. But, my treatments must go on.
I have been entered into a study, where I will be undergoing radiation five days a week for six weeks. These radiation treatments will be held in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. I have been told that I will be unable to work for the forseeable future, possibly totaling six months or more. This is why I have increased the financial "goal" and have updated this page. The funds I am raising will go toward train tickets, expenses and some doctor bills that I will accrue
Cancer has put us under a large financial strain to say the least but I am finding out that each of you have stepped up and showered my family with so much love and support. I am greatful for the ways I have been helped already and I am sure The Lord will provide.
