Help Shape Penny Lane's Brain
Penelope has been a wonderful addition to our family. She's always very cheerful, with big smiles for everyone who stops to look at her. She loves her big sister Georgia, and follows her everywhere around the house. Penny has just started walking, and is so excited by all the new things she can reach and do!
When Penny was first born, she was a very sound sleeper. But she always slept with her head facing to the right. Try as we could, she always slept this way, and she didn't shift during the night. Over time, a flat spot developed on her head. We eventually got her to change her sleeping habits, but even after several months of differing sleep positions, she still has a very noticeable flat spot.
There is a procedure to correct this, where a custom designed helmet is fitted to her head and worn for 6-9 months. It helps contour her skull as it grows and fills out. We have to get it soon, or else Penny will be too old to start the treatment.
Creating such a helmet for Penny costs about $4,000. Our health insurance will pick up some of that cost, and bring it down to about $1,200 for us. There will need to be additional checkups and visits as she progresses to insure things are fitted properly and going smoothly.
We're asking our friends and family to help us with this, in any small way that they can. We currently live paycheck to paycheck. Holli works hard at the hospital in the evenings to help us make ends meet, and I'm going to trade school on the GI Bill and will be able to make more money in about 6-9 months, but we need the helmet now, before Penny gets any older.
This helmet will affect the shape of Penny's head for the rest of her life. I would hate for such a happy girl to go through life feeling awkward and self-conscious over something that could have been fixed so easily at an early age. We would be so grateful for any assistance, and when Penny is older, we will be sure she knows who helped her.
Thank you for even reading this far. If it would be financially difficult to help, please don't! We know how tight money is these days, especially for young families. Thank you for being our friend and caring about us.
