W-S Street School Amer. Hist. Trip
Tax deductible
At the Winston Salem-Street School we are always looking for new and innovative ways to engage with the student population that we serve.
Most of our students come from impoverished communities with little to exposure to the world or the opportunities that exists around them. For many, it is difficult to dream big dreams or set big goals because they only know what they see.
A recent study by the U.S. Travel Association found that taking educational trips contribute to better student outcomes in school and beyond. The study found that, regardless of gender, ethnicity or socioeconomic status, youth who take educational trips have better grades (59 percent), higher graduation rates from high school (95 percent) and college (63 percent), and greater income (12 percent higher annually). In fact, 89 percent of the participants in the study said educational trips had a positive, lasting impact on their education and career because the trips made them more engaged, intellectually curious and interested in and out of school.
Last year 11 Winston-Salem Street School students traveled to Washington D.C. , some of whom had never traveled outside the city. Many still talk about the trip and all that they learned to this day. This year the Winston-Salem Street School's “My Brother’s Keeper” and “Sisterhood” afterschool programs will be taking an educational trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to study American History first hand.
To make this trip a reality we need the support of the entire Winston-Salem community. We are embarking on a fundraising effort to raise $5,000 by November 3rd to cover the cost of transportation, food, lodging, and activities for a group of 10-15 students. Please assist us as we expose our youth to the beauty, history, and opportunity available to them when they expand their worldview.
Your donation can help our students expand their horizons, and choose life "beyond the streets"!
You + Me = "The Change We Want To See In The World!"
We ask you to be a part of the "Village" by making your tax-deductible contribution today. Also, please share the link with your friends, family, and colleagues, and ask them to contribute as well.
We educators, mentors, and student advocates thank you in advance for your support in positively impacting the lives of our young people. To learn more about the Winston-Salem Street School, please visit our website at www.wsstreetschool.com and Like Us on Facebook.
