As so many of you know, our dogs are our family. Mama Rosie gave birth to 10 beautiful baby black labs in November 2009, and we kept two of her babies: Jakey and Iris. Rosie, Iris, and Jake were my mom and dad's new kids since Alex, Remy, and I are (let's face it) not quite as adorable as the pups ;-). Jake was my dad's dog. When my dad was still alive, the two of them road tripped across the United States for a boys trip. Anyone who knows our Jakey knows how special he is. He is a gorgeous, sweet, and innocent boy who let's his mom and sister beat him up, and also let them treat him like the prince he truly is. Last night, we noticed that Jake very suddenly seemed very ill. We rushed him to the emergency vet and came to find out that he had a temperature of 106, his vital organs were in danger, his breathing was rapid and he was not oxygenating. My mom and I did not hesitate to continue with tests to find out what was wrong with him. The X-ray showed that either his heart was very enlarged or surrounded by fluid and it could be any number of alarming things including rat poison causing blood around his heart and lungs, some kind of infection caused by a foreign body (foxtail perhaps) or at worst a tumor. We left him at the emergency vet covered in cold towels, with a fan on him, and oxygen tubes down his nose trying to bring his fever down. His fever thankfully broke in the night and now they are going to do a CT scan to find out what foreign body (as they believe it may be a foxtail) is lodged in his chest cavity. We are awaiting this test now, and praying as hard as we can for Jakey. This may require an open chest surgery to take out the foreign body. He is only 6 years old, and has so much more life to live. We cannot lose him. My mom and I are willing to go the distance monetarily to save him. We have currently racked up the bills as you can imagine, so any donation on behalf of our beloved boy is incredibly appreciated. We love you all and are so thankful to have each and every one of you in our lives. Please keep our Jake in your thoughts.
With love and positivity, thank you,
Weiland Family
