My 52-year-old brother Frank has been battling cancer for over 4 years now. It started with Large Diffuse B-Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. The doctors aggressively treated it with chemotherapy and in six months the cancer was considered to be in remission. Six months later his cancer returned as Follicular Lymphoma which is a lower grade version of the disease. While being treated for this lower grade lymphoma the high grade Large Diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma resurfaced.
After several years of treatment, the only option was for highly aggressive chemotherapy combined with radiation to destroy both the cancer and Frank’s immune system. This prepared him for the bone marrow transplant he desperately needed. Luckily after I flew to New Jersey from Alaska to be tested with our other brother Bobby, Bobby turned out to be a 100% match and the procedure took place in July of this year.
His recovery continues to be a roller coaster of positive and negative updates as his body attempts to accept the donated marrow completely. Currently he is scheduled for a bone marrow biopsy and full PET scan to determine why his body isn’t producing the bone marrow and blood cells it should be. He is at home, but isolated as he currently has no immune system and is vulnerable to germs. But, he must travel several times a week over an hour each way to the cancer center for blood, plasma and injections to give the transplant the best chance of success. Even the common cold could be life threatening in his current state.
Frank has been unable to work and his bills are adding up. Frank is a dedicated father to my 12-year-old niece and we are trying to raise $20,000 for him to get his child support up to date and continue to be paid until he can get back to work. He also owes thousands of dollars of back rent and over $80,000 in medical bills. I suggested over a year ago to try fund raising, but he was too proud to do it. At this point we are desperate for help. Please donate to Frank’s cause and help keep cancer from taking more from him than it already has!
On behalf of my brother, I would like to thank the Cleffis family for their generous donation previously given in the amount of $500. I would also like to thank everyone one of you who sees, shares, and/or doantes to Frank's cause, we are incredibly grateful.
