My brother Chris is 53 years old.  When he was born 2 full months prematurely, his umbilical cord tied in a knot and wrapped around his neck.  The lack of oxygen during birth left him with cerebral palsy (CP).  It has been hard on his body, but he has persevered through life and has been a productive member of the social security administration for in excess of 25 years.  He seldom takes sick leave.

 

By the time he was scheduled for surgery, there were no attachments to his rotator cuff left at all.  The surgeon said he has never seen a shoulder this bad and that if this surgery does not work there is nothing more they can do for my brother.  

 

Because of his CP, he cannot get to the bathroom or kitchen without the use of his arms.  He needs nursing care for the next 12 weeks.  My parents are trying, but Chris is not a little man, and my father just had knee surgery.  My mother is a small woman, not even 5 feet tall.  To make matters worse, Chris had a resistant bacterial infection last year.  He was hospitalized for 65 days with flesh eating bacteria.  This left him with only 7 weeks sick leave left from his job.  The doctors estimate that this is 5 weeks short of the 12 that he needs to recover.  As you know home care is expensive and, with cost of living for the 12 weeks, he needs to raise $33,125.00, as his insurance does not cover postoperative care for this type of surgery, never mind his disability.  

 

Chris is a good guy who is struggling with a lot of bad luck and my parents are exhausted. Please help.  Our family would be forever grateful.
