Help To Build Well In Sierra Leone

As some of our friends know, we are in the process of adopting Issa and Abu, two beautiful little boys from Sierra Leone, West Africa. Abu's father died in May of 2015 as he was trying to dig through the bottom of their community's dried up well in order reach water again. Two other young men died along with Abu's father that day. Just one year prior, three other men had lost their lives attempting to do the same thing. All of those young men left children behind, just like our Abu. As a result of those tragedies, the community's well was sealed and will never be used again. (See picture of the sealed well).Water is plentiful now during the rainy season. However, during the dry months of March, April, and May, the women and children of the community will have to travel about half a mile up a hill and wait in line to collect water from an operating well. They will then have to carry five gallon containers on their heads back home so they can have water for the day. The water crisis of Issa's and Abu's community could be resolved by drilling a sealed modern bore-hole well which would always provide safe drinking water. Because it is sealed, this well would never cave in or be contaminated with pathogens. The expected cost of building a bore-hole well is about $12,000 ($6,300 has already been raised). Our goal is to have it finished before the start of the dry season and we would greatly appreciate your help.
