Barnard Movement Exchange to Panama

As a Dance and Psychology major of Barnard College, my passion for dance and service has recently led me to the organization Movement Exchange. Movement Exchange unites dance and service through its university chapter network, international dance exchanges, and year-round dance programs. Come March 12th 2016 over my spring break, I will be traveling to Panama to donate a week of my time to empower youth and communities through dance. I will be joined by a group of my university student peers and as part of the service exchange, we will spend the week teaching dance at orphanages and at-risk youth foundations. We will also have the opportunity to take class with the University of Panama and other local dance professionals to learn local dance traditions.
I am fundraising $2,500 for the trip in addition to paying for my own airfare to Panama. The contribution goes towards lodging, food, transportation, all in-country costs, and a portion is used for the sustainability of the program to provide biweekly classes for youth at three orphanages year-round. In order for me to achieve my goal, I am reaching out to you!!! If you are interested in donating and helping my cause, you can donate directly to my trip by writing a check addressed to Movement Exchange and writing my name in the memo OR donate here! In order to participate in this service focused dance exchange I must fundraise for all of my expenses by February 5th, so no donation is too small!
By creating a safe environment for creative expression, cross-cultural understanding, and community cohesion, Movement Exchange has empowered over 6500 youth. I am so excited to be joining their efforts and spreading my passion for dance in an international setting. Since my mission trip to Haiti during my senior year of highschool I have found a calling for helping others. After these last few trying months of my life following the death of both my grandfather and my mother, I know in my heart that this trip is something that will help me to both heal and grow from such loss. Please please help me spread the joy of dance to those without access to such a freeing, cathartic, and wonderful art!
