Dan Skirrows Leukemia Fight

Donation protected
Dan Skirrow, (Opie) has been a resident of the Alberni Valley for all of his 55 years. Hardly missing a days work in 28 years with Western Forest Products, Dan began to feel debilitatingly tired and over the last few weeks and was struggling to get himself going. When he began to miss work he knew something was wrong. This past week, Dan was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Leukemia. Without immediate, aggressive treatment the prognosis is very grave. This news is devastating to our family and the countless people who love him. Dan is also known to many in the Valley as black belt martial artist having studied under Warren Lee at Dragon Martial Arts Academy in Port Alberni.

If you know Dan and Sharon you know their love story and if you don't, I'd like to share it with you... Dan and his wife, Sharon were high school sweethearts. After school ended, Sharon wished to move closer to her family in Saskatchewan and Dan, who always respected her individuality, heavy heartedly let her go. They told each other that if they were meant to be, they would be reunited. As time passed, both married other people, both had 2 children and both lived their lives apart always wondering- what if?
Years went by and as time and circumstance would have it, their respective marriages ended. Then, one day 18 years later, Dan picked up the phone. Sharon's mom, who always adored Dan, had passed on that very day, the previous year. Sharon knew the instant she heard his voice, it was her long lost Opie. His timing couldn't have been more poetic. She needed him and without hesitate, like a knight rescuing his princess, he went to Saskatchewan and brought her home. After almost 20 years of distance the two high school sweethearts finally reunited. Having been a witness to their recent marriage and seeing their love first hand, I know it to be the most special kind. That fairytale, meant to be kind. I pray they are given another chance to continue their story and that the world will intervene for them again.

Dan is unable to work and as the breadwinner in the family, travel costs and bills will be difficult to manage. We all know money isn't easily spared these days but if you feel you could donate anything; $5, $3, $1 we would be greatly indebted to you. We don't want to lose our Opie and pray the aggressive treatment he intends to receive in Victoria will allow him to continue his life with us. Please consider a contribution to Opie's fight for life if you are able. And if you are not, please share this campaign. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
