Good Night, Sleep Tight
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Piper. I am a senior in high school from Massachusetts, having moved from Illinois the summer before sophomore year. My freshman year, I created a charitable project called Good Night, Sleep Tight to directly provide bedtime necessities to children in need for the cold Illinois winter months. Each bedtime bundle includes nighttime essentials, such as new pajamas, slippers, warm socks, a blanket or stuffed animal, and several books, in order to ensure every child has books at home (this is so important!). With 100% of donations going directly to purchasing the items contained in each bedtime bundle, the project's volunteers cover transportation/packaging costs, and friends and classmates generously help with assembling bundles.
In its first year, my project collected enough donations from family, friends and my local community in the Chicagoland area to assemble 125 bedtime bundles. After moving to Massachusetts the following year, I saw that there was an equal need to help impoverished young people in neighboring communities. Thanks to the generosity of the people in my new community, I collected enough donations to assemble 100 bundles for children and teens in northern Mass. The following year, the amount of donated bundles doubled.
Meanwhile, back in Illinois, the effort continues with the work of my friend, Ana, who has doubled bedtime bundle donations each year since the start of the program. After only 3 years, the Good Night, Sleep Tight project has donated bedtime bundles to approximately 1,000 children in need, both here in Massachusetts and in Illinois, by providing items to keep them warm and comfortable while reading or listening to a bedtime story.
Going into my fourth fundraising season, I am so grateful for the very generous donations, both online and in-kind, that GNST has received in past fundraising seasons, from people all across the country. A big thank-you to new contributors like Andover Bear Company and Knights of Columbus, who were especially generous last year -- you're amazing! With the abundance of in-kind donations last season, I was able to go beyond my goals with Good Night, Sleep Tight, to assemble nearly 100 reading bags with the extra books and stuffed animals. I distributed them to children new to the House of Hope emergency homeless shelter to comfort them in their transition to a new environment. Project Home Again was also eager to receive these reading bags to offer to children of low-income households in the Lawrence school district, where 35% of children live below the poverty level. The bags provide children with quality reading materials to start their own at-home library and a stuffed animal to make reading before bed a time to look forward to each day!
**Please consider making a donation using the donate box on the right to make a difference for a child or teen in need as the cold months approach. Every donation is meaningful and appreciated!
Because many children who live in poverty experience the added stress that comes from the hardships of their family's financial difficulties, my hope is that, with your help, we can offer these children a sense of warmth and calmness at the end of the day.
Thank you so much for taking the time to learn about my project; I look forward to a successful donation campaign in hopes that it will bring to warmth, joy and comfort to as many children as possible. **Please share this page on Facebook--you'll help it gain more donations to help more children. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Good Night, Sleep Tight bedtime bundles are distributed through Catie's Closet in Dracut, MA, supporting children in 26 area schools and Lazarus House in Lawrence, MA, who since 1983 have helped 300,000 children in need.
