Andrew’s Fight Against Leukemia
Dear friends, family, and compassionate humans,
I am reaching out to you all today with a heavy heart to share the news that a fellow human, Andrew Wong, is currently battling leukemia.
This human also happens to be my fiancé, an older brother, a son, a loved one to many, a proud San Francisco native, a sk8r boi, a WWE lover, a basketball fan, and an all-around amazing individual.
Background
Two weeks after our engagement, we were in the hospital together with his family learning of his diagnosis. It started with some sharp pain near his spleen and a visit to the ER. His labs showed a WBC (white blood cell count) of 320,000 (normal range is 4,500 to 11,000). He was officially diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia shortly after. It scared us even more to learn that the progression of this disease was sudden and aggressive.
Chemotherapy started on November 8 and his future treatment plan remains unknown. For now, he is expected to go through many more rounds of chemotherapy along with other treatments and procedures. Our motto has been “a day at a time!”
About ALL
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is a rapidly progressing cancer that originates in the bone marrow, affecting the production of immature white blood cells called lymphoblasts. It requires prompt and aggressive treatment, often involving chemotherapy, to target and eliminate the abnormal cells.
Leukemia not only takes a toll on the physical health of the individual, but also poses significant mental and financial burdens. The costs associated with chemotherapy, hospital stays, and ongoing medical treatments are immense. This is only just the beginning… Our goal is to alleviate some of the financial stress, allowing Andrew to focus on what matters most – his health and well-being.
Strength in Numbers
Your generosity (at any level) will help cover medical expenses, prescription costs, and other essential needs such as housing, family planning, and ensure that Andrew can face each day with renewed hope and determination.
On behalf of Andrew and his family, we are incredibly grateful for you taking the time to visit our page and for your contribution. We know we can’t do this alone. We are very much looking forward to a forever together with Andrew.
*In the case you would like to donate through a different platform (Zelle, Venmo…), please contact me directly through this platform.
A day at a time…
Update (12/4/23):
We are overwhelmed with gratitude for your support in reaching our goal for Andrew. He begins his second cycle of chemotherapy this Wednesday, facing it with incredible bravery.
Your generosity is not just financial; it’s a powerful source of inspiration for Andrew. Thanks for being a crucial part of his journey. Your continued thoughts and support mean so much to us!!!
We’ll do our best to keep you all posted on Andrew’s progress. Together, we’ll beat this thing. A day at a time…
Update (3/5/24):
Andrew has been going through chemo since his first week of diagnosis. He has now transitioned from chemo treatment to immunotherapy. The decision to switch was made by his oncology team, aiming to provide Andrew with a more gentle and targeted approach.
His immunotherapy treatment involves four cycles, each spanning a little over a month's time. We are optimistic about this new path and the potential it holds for Andrew's recovery. Because the effects are less harsh on his body, he's able to complete more day-to-day tasks (but not really haha).
Thank you again to all who have played a crucial role in making these decisions possible, enabling us to explore the best possible options for his well-being. Every contribution and text/call has been a lifeline for us. Please keep him in your thoughts as he embarks on this new phase of treatment!
