Housing for Foster Cats
Donation protected
My name is Cynthia and I work for The Humane Society of Dallas. I have had over 13 years of animal experience working at the shelter, but in that time I have also been a foster for bottle baby kittens. These are small kittens, under 7 weeks old, that do not have a mother cat, so they must be hand raised. I choose to volunteer for this opportunity annually and have done so yearly in order to give tiny kittens a hope for a better future. In the last year, throughout the course of the past 8 months, I have bottle fed and fostered approximately 60 bottle babies. This year I have started to participate in the TNR (Trap/Neuter(spay)/ Release) program in Dallas neighborhoods. This process is a proactive approach to feral, unsociable cats in the Dallas area in order to eliminate the overpopulation and reproduction of unwanted and uncared for stray cats on our streets. So far I have successfully aided in the spay/neuter and safe relocation of 26 feral, unsociable cats. It is my fervent hope to continue the role of TNR in our community and also to continue fostering bottle babies in need of specialized attention. However, I am volunteering to do this at my own home with a family and our space is limited. My ideal goal would be to create a climate controlled "Cat Room" as an alternative to taking away half of my children's bedroom to help these unwanted animals. Right now my goal is to create a separate climate controlled area on my property in which to care for both the feral and stray cats in the TNR process and also have a nursery to care for the bottle babies I rescue. My goal is to have this room insulated and equipped with a climate control of both air conditioning and heat so that all the animals can be comfortable in spite of the outside conditions they've come from until the TNR procedure or until the kittens are old enough to be adopted out. The cats that I help through the TNR process I do keep for a few days after their spay or neuter operation just to make sure they heal correctly before locating them to a safe outside environment. Since the Humane Society of Dallas, where I work, is a non-profit entity I would like to create, fund, and supply my "Cat Room" without drawing on the limited resources of my non-profit shelter.
Your donation will help me to provide a nicely sized, comfortable room for these animals during their transition. This support includes the building, installation, climate control, more traps for feral cats, and kitten condos. I feel strongly about adding my resources and attention to this overlooked and under supported effort and to provide each cat and kitten with a better, healthier opportunity and hope. It is my fervent hope that you can help me achieve that goal.
Any extra funds over and above the cost of this project that are received will be donated to the Humane Society of Dallas.
