Hello. My name is Emily. I recently suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI). I have been working diligently at meeting my goals to return back to work as a preschool teacher. I have already overcome several hardships and am working to get my life back to normalcy. Money raised through my campaign will be used towards medical bills, a place to live and everyday necessities.
On December 5th, 2015, I fell in my apartment, hitting my head twice. I spent months seeing doctors and neurologists and was diagnosed with a TBI. I was not cleared to work, live alone or drive. I felt as though I was a different person- lost. I have spent time working with outpatient therapists, however insurance restricted further progress because I could stand and walk without assistance. I spent three months without any intervention, until my new neurologist suggested an inpatient rehabilitation program. Since being admitted to this inpatient rehab, I have worked around the clock to progress. After discharge from my current rehab, I will be enrolling in a brain injury day program to assist me in returning back into the working world. There, I will continue to build on the skills/strategies I have learned so far.
I had been staying with a friend and her family since my injury. After being admitted to the hospital, I learned that I is unable to return to my previous living arrangement. I would like to integrate back into the community, however, am unable to do so because of my current financial situation. At this point, I do not have a discharge destination.
I have outlined the next few months to make my return to the community and work as successful as possible. My number one priority is being healthy and pain-free so that my students will receive the best education and care possible.
Donations will greatly impact my future in healing and reestablishing my life. My passion is working with children and focusing on their education. Please help me to regain my independence by donating to help with medical bills, living arrangements and everyday necessities. I would be appreciative of any amount to help.
