TA TA Tuesday was created to help Kelley, her husband Ross and their twin daughters, Kate and Sara, celebrate their lives as BREAST CANCER SURVIVORS - yes, they are all survivors of this disease.
"I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2012, 2 weeks before my 44th birthday. I immediately began chemotherapy and had a single mastectomy in June. I begin a 2nd chemotherapy in July and did 6 weeks of daily radiation. Being bald was the most liberating experience!
Prior or to going through breast reconstruction the following summer, a mass was found on my right lung and about 7-10 lymph nodes under my collarbone. I fearfully began what is now over a 3 year regimen on a new chemo called Kadcyla which targeted my specific type of breast cancer cells. This chemo shrunk the new cancer.
In August 2014, the spot on my lung had grown, so I underwent thoracic surgery to remove that part of my lung. Still on Kadcyla every 3 weeks, I celebrated 2 years clear on 8/5/2016.
I was rediagnosed 9/9/2016 when another spot on the other lung showed up on a scan.
Four and and a half years, I still battle this disease. All while working full time and raising little girls who are now in the 3rd grade. They don't even remember what it was like when mommy didn't have cancer or cancer treatment. However, we have been extremely blessed by God's healing hands and provisions over us. We are surrounded by enormous support, faith and love, and we are so appreciative of our lives, our families and our friends."
This fundraiser isn't about money; it's about bringing awareness to how this can impact one family or thousands. And the impact is daily. It wreaks havoc on their bodies, their relationships, their time. And although it tries to destroy their faith, it can never do that. This fundraiser is about celebration of life! And to allow those who have expressed a desire to "do something" but didn't know what or how.
