Hello…my name is Cristina Esteves and in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 22nd I received a call from my panic-stricken brother Carlos telling me my beautiful niece Mikayla Esteves was in a horrible car accident. At this point we didn’t know the extent of her injuries but by the Grace of God & her guardian angel, my mother, we knew she was alive.
After CAT scans, MRI’s, X-rays and many other invasive tests it was determined she had a fractured skull, dislocated hip, fractured foot, a small bleed from her carotid artery, and many bumps, bruises and cuts from the airbag exploding, glass and the crash impact itself. The doctors were able to pop her hip back in. Her skull needs time to heal therefore she will be using a Halo Vest for at least the next 11 weeks, along with a leg brace, and a boot.
By the Grace of God Mikayla was allowed to come home to her family on Christmas Eve. I personally think my mother was watching over her again and had a hand in this little miracle.
Mikayla has a long road ahead of her. She is going to need physical therapy, medications, medical equipment & many appointments with various doctors. Working in the medical field I know that insurance will only cover so much and that’s after you’ve met your deductible. Mikayla will also be out of work for at least 3-6 months depending on how much progress she makes.
My brother and sister-in-law Suzanne are humble people and won’t ask for any help, that’s why I decided to set up this page. Any support will be appreciated, even if it’s just a share.
Thank you for your time and God Bless.
