Bring Science to Girls in Oakland!
Donation protected
Do you want to see more girls excel and thrive in science and engineering? Do you want to see more girls of color in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math)?
If so, can you please make a donation (big or small!) to help SCIENTIFIC ADVENTURES FOR GIRLS raise $5000 to offer young girls at an elementary school in Oakland, CA an engaging, after school STEM program in the Winter/Spring of 2017? This school, of which 93% of the student body receives free/reduced lunch and 90% are African American, Arabic and Hispanic, was identified by the head of Oakland elementary science as a school in need of an after school STEM program. We are working closely with the Principal at the school to deliver the program.

Help us raise the funds in the next 30 days! We have some special gifts for donors:
$500: TESLA Factory Tour Ticket ( to first 4 donors or you get all 4 if you donate $2000!)
$750: 2-Hour STEM Birthday Party (Bay Area)
$150: SAFG T-Shirt
This is where it all starts - if we can get these young girls engaged from the age of 5 and 6, we can start changing the trends of having only 26% of women in technology and 13% in engineering. Research shows girls can start losing interest in STEM in early elementary – by offering engineering and technology classes to girls while they are young and open, SAFG aims to expose girls in elementary school to STEM in a fun, appealing and relevant way to empower and inspire them to stay engaged in STEM throughout their lives.
This program would start in February 2017 and run for 16 weeks.
Here is what your money is paying for:
-Program and Curriculum Development
-Head Teacher to teach 16 classes
-Assistant to teach 16 classes
-Materials for all classes
-Snack before class for all girls
-Role Model and Volunteer Management
-Evaluation of Program

More Info about SAFG
SAFG’s overarching mission is to help girls and women gain equitable access to STEM-related activities, STEM education and STEM careers. SAFG classes are designed to build their confidence in STEM, learn problem solving, collaboration, perseverance, and how to think, question and talk about science.
Since its inception in 2014, SAFG has served over 425 girls. SAFG also partnered with Lawrence Hall of Science to provide a STEM Library program to girls and boys at 81st Library and Eastmont Libraries. SAFG reached over 200 children through these STEM library programs and is continuing throughout this school year.
SAFG was acknowledged this past summer by the White House as a "Nominated Changemaker" and was invited to the White House Summit on the United State of Women. SAFG was honored to attend and hear from President Obama, Joe Biden and 75 other leaders working to support women and girl’s programs in the United States and be a part of the vital discussions around strategies to engage more women and girls in STEM starting in elementary school.
Please help us to continue to Change the Face of Science! No donation is too small!
