Making scarves for the homeless
Donation protected
From now through Christmas my mom is making fleece scarves for the homeless people of the Twin Cities (Minnesota). She was inspired by her friend Allan "The Sandwich man" of Minneapolis
Allan has spent every night for the last 14 years passing out food to the homeless. He goes at night when all other resorces are closed and people have no where to turn. Last week he visited my mom at her work and she noticed he wasn't dressed for the cold weather. She insisted he take her scarf.
The next time he stopped by, he no longer had the scarf and explained he gave it to someone that needed it more than he did that night. So my mother, being a crafter was inspired. She decided that from now through Christmas, she would create simple fleece scarves that are wide enough to go over a person's head and wrap around their face and neck.
So, being thrifty and only going to the local fabric stores when they have their weekly sale and she can use her senior citizen discount, she buys yards of fleece and has been spending her days cutting and tying them into her bright colored scarves. She's already given 75 of them to Allen so he can pass them out along with his sandwiches to anyone he finds in need. She would like to provide him with 500 total. The cost per scarf averages betwen $2.50 to $3.00.
I have set up this page to help defer some of the monetary cost for her since she herself is on a fixed income.
