NICU Care for Twins: Aly & Spence

Donation protected

Hello Everyone,

As many of you know our family welcomed beautiful twins 11 days ago named Alycen (born at 2.1 lbs) and Spence (born at 1.7 lbs), although wonderful news, they were born premature. Due to medical complications the doctors decided that the best hope for them was to bring the children into the world at 26 weeks pre-term (3 months early). Obviously with being born this early they have struggled and fought to stay with us, but every day is a challenge. Spence is beginning to be stabilize and continues to strengthen everyday but will remain in the NICU until December.

Alycen has not been as fortunate, she struggles with reoccurring holes developing in both of her lungs and struggles to breathe. The doctors have now moved her to a larger Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at another hospital to perform a procedure to re-locate a chest tube in hopes of improving her condition. She has also suffered some brain hemorrhaging that caused swelling and the doctors are trying their best to monitor it closely as well. Many days and hours have been touch and go as Aly fights so hard to cling to life and heal. She has had a harder time in the short two weeks of her life than many people ever have in a lifetime. Her heart stopped beating a few nights ago and had to be resuscitated. God performed a miracle and brought her sweet heart back to life.

The byproduct of this change in care has caused the twins to now be separated across the city at different NICU hospitals. The unimaginable struggle for Alycen and the distance between both babies is also causing stress on Spence as well. He is often fussy and needs extra love & care. Can you imagine the emotional roller coaster and physical exhaustion the parents are going through trying to care for 2 preemies, each located at different hospitals across a very large city while holding a job daily for the next 3 months?

We have started this GoFundme page in hopes of trying to offset some of the expenses they are incurring as the medical bills are rapidly piling up, the loss of time at work/pay for both parents is increasing, and now the additional expenses associated with transporting Alycen to a different hospital.

Every bit helps and is greatly appreciated. No gift is too small or too big. 100% of the proceeds will go to the family to help ease the struggle of the critical care of their preemies and mounting medical expenses, along with time away from work. Please help us care for this family! We also encourage you to share Aly and Spence's story with others! May God richly bless your gift!!!
