Victim of hate crime

Our beloved friend, Rachel, was targeted by two people (a male and a female) at the Walmart parking lot close to the Love field airport. The accused individuals shouted racist slurs at her, hit her, and pepper sprayed her. They also stole her phone and ID during the crime. The female perpetrator even danced and twerked before they left the scene. Rachel also sustained serious body injuries from being run over by a car during the chaos.

Injuries from this incident has since left her with countless sleepless nights, high medical bills, physical therapies and the fear for her safety. Some damages might be recovered but some will last forever. While sustaining those body/mind injuries, her determination and willpower gave her the strength to compete in the bodybuilding contest after mere 3 weeks.

“You are fucking Asian! You are fucking Asian alien”. As an Asian woman, after I heard those words, they kept repeating in my head. The vicious acts that happened to Rachel have continued to affect her body and soul.

I could have never imagined such a hate crime in broad daylight. This happened in front of so many people, and no one came forward to help. The FBI defines a hate crime as a “criminal offense against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by an offender’s bias against a race, religion, disability, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, or gender identity.”
