Early on April 23, 2016 I received a call from my best friend of 32 years, Wendell. I answered the phone and immediately heard the devastation in my brother's voice-- his only son, Zachariah, had passed away.
Zachariah was a fun-loving, happy 5-year-old boy living with autism. On April 22, Wendell and his wife noticed Zachariah looked different and decided to rush him to the hospital. However, on the way to the hospital he passed away from what doctors say was low blood count due to leukemia. They were unaware their son was suffering from cancer because his autism had disabled him from speaking.
All deaths are sad, but it is especially saddening when a child dies. Just as funerals are not fun, they are also costly.
