For most people life is like a bumpy road. Our journey to become a family feels like it has potholes the size of the Grand Canyon. Here is our journey to have a child.
We started trying to have children about nine years ago. In 2009 we started fertility medication to aid in the process of getting pregnant. Unfortunately, without success. We then had to have the talk with our doctors about our next options. Shortly after, in 2010, we decided to try In Vitro Fertilization, IVF. Our first IVF attempt was successful and we were expecting! We could not believe our joy! But then, at around 20 weeks, our lives changed. Three days before we were to find out the sex of our baby, my wife’s cervix partially opened. The doctors called it an incompetent cervix. They tried surgery, but it was too late. We were told that our baby had to be delivered. Our sweet daughter was born the next day. The doctors said that there was nothing they could do for our tiny baby to keep her alive. Our world fell apart. We were heart broken. If only this would have happened a month later, her chances of survival would have been greater. But it was not. Our daughter. Gone.
We tried IVF a second time a few months later, but sadly miscarried shortly after. We then tried for a third and fourth time, but the embryo did not attach at both tries. Every time, a part of our hearts broke more. We were devastated. We thought this would be our last hope at having a child of our own.
Years later, we could not believe our ears: A close friend offered to be a gestational surrogate at no cost. How can someone be so selfless and kind to us? We can have the chance of our own child?! Will our bumpy road finally become smoother?
We knew that surrogacy would not be cheap, as insurance does not cover any of the cost for the embryo transfer or the medications needed. We have saved money with the hopes of adopting, but with this opportunity, we have decided to use those funds for this option. Having children is something we have always wanted. We are not the type of people to ask for money, even sharing our journey with you is incredibly hard for us, but we need your assistance in helping us start a family. We will forever be grateful for our friend and are thankful for each and every one of you considering helping us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
