Mat & Megan reluctantly agreed to let us set up this GoFundMe page to provide them financial support as they take on the fight of their lives. Any financial donation you are able to provide will be used to cover medical bills and related expenses.
Help comes in many different forms...thoughts, prayers, cards, child care, friendships and prepared meals to name a few. We are so humbled and appreciative for everyone who is helping in our time of need. You all have a special place in our hearts!
The reason for the donation request:
With virtually no warning signs, Mat suddenly started getting severe headaches, nauseous and losing balance around September 20, 2016. They knew something wasn't right so they went to the hospital Thursday Sept 22nd where he was evaluated and then sent for a MRI. The next day, Friday September 23rd, the doctor called them back in to discuss the results from the MRI. They got the news that nobody ever wants to hear... "It's cancer".
Mat was diagnosed with a Brain Stem Glioma. This specific cancer is extremely difficult to treat or control since it doesn't really respond to chemotherapy or radiation and surgery really is not an option because of the critical functions that are controlled by that part of the brain such as breathing, heart rate, and the nerves and muscles used to see, hear, walk, talk, and eat.
News like this would be hard for anyone to hear but anyone who knows Mat won't be surprised by his response. When he asked the Dr what the success rate of beating this cancer was... (I'll just say it wasn't good)...Mat told the doctor that he's looking at the 1st person who is going to beat this cancer!
Mat & Megan know the road ahead of them is not going to be easy. They know the prognosis isn't good but they are people of great faith in God. As Mat said..."One way or another, God will take this Cancer from me!"
Mat started focused radiation treatments Monday Sept 26th and will continue to have treatments 5 days per week for 6 weeks. (1st treatment below)
